To enhance the co-op experience, NUSL offers students the option to combine eligible co-ops (nonprofit, government, or judicial) with a 1-credit asynchronous course called Reflections on Lawyering. Full-time JD students who participate can earn a total of 8 credits: 1 credit for the course and 7 credits for the co-op work itself through the Public Interest/Public Service Field Placement program. FlexJD students who participate can earn 6 field placement credits (tied to completion of co-op) and 2 credits for the co-requisite, asynchronous seminar with weekly assignments. Since Reflections is required for graduation for FlexJD students, all co-op employers are eligible for them. For all eligible students, if you receive a grade of FAIL or withdraw from the asynchronous seminar, you will receive zero credits for the seminar and zero credits for the field placement. This opportunity is designed to enhance the co-op experience, which is central to the NUSL curriculum.
